WATERLOO, IOWA (May 28, 2010) – The My Waterloo Days Executive Committee has announced that former Waterloo mayor, Tim Hurley and his wife Kathy, will be the Grand Marshals for the festival’s Saturday morning parade. Hurley served as mayor of Waterloo for three 2-year terms, beginning in January 2004. During his administration, Hurley focused on four key initiatives: economic development, improved financial health of city government, improved delivery of government services and an improved city image.
Mayor Hurley was born in Waterloo and spent his first 18 years growing up in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After graduating from Columbus High School, he pursued higher education at the University of Missouri-Rolla, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgical engineering. He then went on to earn his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Northern Iowa. He is an active member of St. Edward Parish, the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance, the Waterloo Development Corporation, Cedar Valley’s Promise, the Iowa League of Cities, Iowa Northland Regional Council of Government, the Cedar Valley Coalition, Cedar Valley United Way, Rotary Club, Exchange Club and several other community organizations. Mayor Hurley and his wife, Kathy McCoy, have three children and seven grandchildren.
100 area organizations and businesses will be featured in the annual My Waterloo Days parade on Saturday, June 5th starting at 9:30 a.m. Staging will take place on W Fourth Street and will start the route going north from W Fifth and Jefferson; traveling to Mulberry; then east to Park Avenue; and turning south to Jefferson Street and turning left to Fourth Street to end.
As the My Waterloo Days committee continues to make progress and finalize plans for the 2010 festival, additional information such as entertainment and location specifics will be released to keep the community well informed of what to expect in 2010.
